Economy:
Britain lives by manufacture and trade. Its agriculture provides only half the food it needs. The other half of its food, have to be imported. The main agricultural areas are Scotland and Wales.
Large parts of Britain are suitable only for grazing. There is also grown wheat, barley, sugar beet, potatoes etc. The southern part of England is called green country. There are meadows, orchards and vineyards. World-known British cattle and sheep breeding earn lots of money.
The important centers are:
Yorkshire - coal mining, clothing, and woolen industry
London - food, textile industry, light engineering
Manchester - cotton, textile industry, chemical industry, engineering, coal mining
South Wales - engineering
Liverpool - food industry, shipbuilding
Glasgow - shipyards
Coventry - car industry (Jaguar)
