The City is the oldest part of London.It is self-governing area headed by the Lord Mayor.The Lord official residence is stately Mansion House.The City is the largest financial and commercial center in Europe.In the East End live many immigant groups and working people.The West End has chic shops, threatres, parks and famous Trafalgar Square.Near the West End is Westminster with Buckingham Palace, Parliament and Government.Nearby are Kensington and Belgravia, Knightsbridge and Chelsea.
The Tower of London began to build William the Conqueror to impress and dominate people.Today it is tourist attraction.You can see there museum with weapons, the Crown Jewels in the Jewel house and the prison.The Tower is guarded by the Yeomen Warders(incorrectly called Beefeaters) who still wear uniform of tudor times.Six ravens are kept in the Tower to protect whole Kingdom.The legend says that the Kingdom cease to exist when the ravens leave the Tower.
Next to the Tower stands Tower Bridge which is raised in the middle to allow ships to pass under the bridge.
The largest church of the City is St.Paul´s Cathedral.It is the second largest church on the world(after St.Peters in Rome).It stands on the site of previous cathedral which was damaged by the Great Fire in 1666.St.Paul´s Cathedral is built in the Baroque style.Today, the Cathedral is surrounded by the Bank of England, the Stock Exchange and insurance institution Loyds.Not far from St.Paul´s Cathedral is the Monument commemorating the place in Pudding Lane where the Great Fire of London started.The Houses of Parliament are the home of British Parliament.They were rebuilt in neogothic style.Great Britain is the oldest democracy in the world.This democracy has roots in agreement(called Magna Charta Libertatum)between king and his nobles to share power. The House of Lords is gothic hall decorated in red.There is the throne of Sovereign and the seat of Lord Chancelor who presides over the House.The House of Commons is more restrained in style.The House of Commons is presided over by the Speaker.Big Ben is not really the name of the clock, it is the name of the bell.
Monarch are crowned and heroes buried at Westminster Abbey.There are Coronation Chair containing the historic Stone of Scone, symbol of Scottish Royalty and monuments to some famous poets in the Poets Corner.
Not far from Houses of Parliament is Buckingham Palace the home of the kings and queens.You can see there Changing of the guard and Queen Victoria Monument.The state apartments have been open to the public.
Trafalgar Square is the largest square in London.In the middle of the square is the Nelson Column with two fountains surrounded by lot of pidgeons.The National Gallery forms one side of Trafalgar Square.It contains paintings of famous painters.Next to is National Portrait Gallery with portraits and photographs of famous people.
Not far from Trafalgar Square is Piccadilly Circus where Regent Street, Piccadilly and
haftsbury Avenue join and three underground lines cross under this square.
There is the Barbican Centre with Barbican Hall home of the London symphony

There is Greenwich in London´s environs, where the prime meridian of 0° passes through the old observatory at Greenwich.
