American typical house is ranch style house.It´s usually one story house surrounded by a yard.Brick and stucco houses are more common in southern states, because there is scarcer wood.San Francisco has Victorian style of architecture.Victorian houses are painted in bright colors, especially blue.There are expensive apartments in the scyscrapers called condominiums or condos with communal amenities such as laundry room, swimming pool or fitness room.Young people usually live in rented apartments.For retired people there are mobile homes located in mobile home parks.It´s inexpensive way of living for retired people.In addition, there are nature log houses and efficient geodesic homes. American have a lots of gadgets at home because it makes job easier and quicker.For example:garbage compactor that squeezes garbage into small cubes or sink with three faucets:a normal one, one with a spray nozzle for washing dishes and one with its own heater.Some houses have a small computer system.It will turn the heating on, switch the light and radio on and make a coffee.
Newer homes have two and half bathrooms.The main bathroom is for everyone´s use.The second bathroom is usually off the master bedroom.Half bathroom is toilet and sink, usually used by guests.Americans like showers and tubs.Shower often have jaccuzi heads which give a massage while washing.The living room is for more formal occasions such as entertaining guests.Washer and dryer are in the laundry room.Cars, bikes and lawn mower are in the garage.There is also workbench.The family room is large room where family watch television, play games, listening music and do crafts.It is the hub of the activity.In Britain
There are three main types of houses in Britain:terraced - usually two-storey houses joined together in a row or terrace, semi-detached - a pair of houses joined together,
etached - single separate house.Bungalows are usually one-story detached houses.They are popular among older person and people who don´t like stairs.About 20% of the population live in flats.But some block of flats had to be pulled down because they were built very quickly and rashly.In modern housing estates are lawns, play areas for children and community centres where people who live on the estate can meet.When people want to sell their house they do it through an estate agent(realitní agent).The agent pu up the inscription "FOR SALE" and then "SOLD".When you haven´t enough money to buy house at once you can loan money from bank.This is called mortgage(hypotéka).
