- at the end of the Civil War 90 % of Atlanta ( Georgia ) had burned down
- became the economic and the cultural capital of the Deep South
- airport is one of the busiest in the world
- many companies have their headquarters ( centrála ) there
- 1996 the Olympic Games were held here
- Martin Luther King Jr. was born here ( memorial to him in the M. L. King, Jr. Memorial Historic District )
New Orleans
- Mississippi river
- the birthplace of blues and jazz
- Dixieland jazz – the name given to the style that originated here
- Louis `Satchmo` Amstrong was born in New Orleans
- Cajuns – shorter term for members of New Orleans ( French-speaking community), descenated from French-Canadians who came in Louisiana in the 18th century ,beliving they were coming to ”Arcadia” ( = paradise )
- Cajuns cooking uses hot spices and a variety of fish ( from waters of the swampy Bayou)
- Jambalaya – a sticky rice dish with shrimp, sausage and chicken
- Gumbo – a peppery broth of crabmeat, shrimp, sausage, chicken, vegetables
