The freedom of religion is in the first amendment of the American Constitution.This is why the founding fathers established the separation of church and state.There is no state church but the goverment isn´t against religion.There is inscription In God we trust on coins and the favourite national song is God bless America.Many immigrants came to escape religious persecution.Both Catholics and Puritans fled from Britain, Huguenots fled from France, and Jews from many parts of Europe.Because of the religion tolerance there are still some old-fashioned religious groups such as Mennonites or stricter Amish(called Pensylvania Dutch-from Deutsch meaning German).They speak and read Bible in German.They live in simple houses without electricity and modern gadgets(cars).They are farmers and their organic products are popular because of their nature farming methods.There are sects or denominations which try to convert outsiders to their religion such as mormons(officially the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints).They send missionaries all over the world.The founder of this religion Joseph Smith was persecuted in the East and his successor, Brigham Young, went west and founded the Salt Lake City.There are many fundamentalists in television.During broadcast they ask for money on their work and they are very popular especially in Bible Belt.By the first amendment there was canceled children Christian prayers at school after protests of atheists.denomination-established religion group such as Roman Catholics, Baptist, Lutherans, Episcopal and Quakers
sect-a group which breaks off from denomination or new group before establishion such as Unification Church(the Moonies)
fundamentalist-protestant denomination based very closely on Bible, don´t believing in the theory of evolution

bible belt-the southern part of United States where people are very active in their churches and often conservative in their lifestyles.
